iRTG Workshop in Wittenberg

Aims

This workshop addresses doctoral students in chemistry, physics, biophysics, and related fields in the iRTG "Polymers: random coils and beyond". The doctoral students will introduce the basic theoretical and technical concepts necessary for an understanding of projects within the iRTG. The iRTG workshop focuses on experimental and theoretical techniques to study synthetic polymer and biopolymer systems.

Topics

  • Structure and dynamics of biopolymers
  • Inter- and intramolecular dynamics of PMPS
  • Coarse graining approaches
  • Molecular dynamics by spin relaxation
  • Surface energy of porous and surface modified materials
  • Model polymer melts with GROMACS
  • Statistical data analysis
  • Monolayers of amphiphilic molecules
  • Liquid-state/solid-state NMR
  • Structure analysis by diffraction
  • Real time control of experimental setups
  • Polymer characterization by chromatography
  • Surface imaging of soft polimeric substances
  • Polymer synthesis techniques
  • Protein-ligand complexes

Techniques

  • Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy
  • Broadband dielectric and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy
  • Monte-Carlo methods (Stochastic approximation, Markov chain)
  • Chromatography (Inverse Gas C.)
  • Molecular dynamics simulation
  • Langmuir measurements, Brewster angle microrscopy
  • Atomic force microscopy
  • Wide Angle X-Ray Diffraction
  • Automated processes
  • Small Angle X-Ray Scattering
  • Step-growth and chain polymerization
