Scientific writing for natural scientists

Objective:
This training helps participants to develop an efficient writing work-flow. They work on their own writing project and bring it a step forward

Content:
• How and when to start writing.
• Preparing the contents and line of argumentation of a paper.
• How to write a paper efficiently.
• How to make writing interesting for you and reading interesting for the audience.
• Typical language-related mistakes.
• From the first draft to a publishable article.
• The article publishing process.

Methods:
Presentation by the trainer, writing exercises. Students are invited to bring a paper draft or material for a writing project. Comparison of published papers from the literature, provided by the participants (e.g. a nature or science article, a really well-written paper, and a boring one).

Trainer:
Dr. Ben Brüggemann works as coach and trainer for natural scientists. He obtained his Ph.D. in physics (theory of ultrafast spectroscopy) at Humboldt-University Berlin, and worked for five years as PostDoc in Lund (Sweden) He has co-authored 22 peer-reviewed publications and participated in numerous international conferences with talks and posters.

Target group: maximal 12 participants
