Time & Self-Management for doctoral candidates

Follow up seminar for the participants of the course held on 20.07.12

This semester a follow up Seminar will be organised in October.

The past participants will be directly invited by the SFB-office to choose the date for the course.

Passed Seminar

Objectives:
To develop skills in self- and time-management to deal with the specific work load and pressure of a dissertation project.

Content:
Time- and self-management is a set of methods, skills, and strategies to effectively direct your activities toward your objectives. In this workshop the trainer will give an overview over the field and help you identify areas of improvement for your individual time- and self-management system. We work on the three areas effectiveness, efficiency, and balance and discuss procrastination, perfectionism, and other typical issues. You learn how to develop and install time- and self-management habits to leverage your success in the doctorate.

Methods:
The workshop is oriented toward the development of individual, immediately applicable strategies. The methods include input by the trainer, individual and group work, as well as discussions and peer-feedback.

Outlook:
It is envisioned to have a follow up session in fall to allow the participants to apply and gain experience with the taught methods, reflect on it and address problems. Feedbacks from the trainer as well as additional ideas are guaranteed.

Target Group:
Doctoral students at the start of their project (but not only these ;-)

Trainer: Dr. María Machón
The Spanish-born trainer is a studied  physicists, having graduated from TU Berlin with a doctorate in nanostructes and a lot of training experience concerning personal skills seminars at various institutions. She is just returning from maternal leave: Lots of practical inside in daily time- and self-management is ensured ;-)

Participation is limited to: 12
